DIDN'T I SAY THAT I WOULDN'T BE JOINING ANOTHER SEW ALONG FOR QUITE SOME TIME???:

I know, I know, nobody twisted my arm to join I just kinda wanted to be a part of this. I heart plaid pleated wool skirts, so when Joanne told me this circa 1980's pattern qualified as vintage I jumped right on in, yes, yet another sew along boat.

My fabric is a wool blend that I scooped up at Hancock's last year.  The pattern is one that I found at a thrift junk store that me and my friends cruise every once and a while.  It reminds me of a skirt I made back in the 80' that I loved so much.  The pattern challenge is that it's a size 12, and I am clearly not there (not with all of my holiday eating that is).  So I will need to grade up at least one size to make it work for me.  I think it's quite doable.  This a unique pattern because the pleats are located at the side of the skirt.  I'm already planning the look I want for this project:  a black or red sweater, black wool blazer, boots, gloves, and my hat.  I can just see me wearing it now.

McCall Skirt w/ Pockets

Hello, everyone.  My name is Kristine, and my blog is "Just Keep Sewing".  I live in Michigan, and learned to sew about 20 years ago when I was in middle school.  I've never sewn a vintage pattern before, but am very excited to do so!  I've got a few in my pattern stash, some purchased, some won, and some handed down from my mother.  I'm going to start simply, with this basic a-line skirt from a McCall pattern.
The pattern is clearly "McCall" singular, not plural like the current title.  I wonder when and why that change happened?

Anyhow, I've got some lovely chocolate brown wool gauze from Gorgeous Fabrics for this little project.  If all goes well, I've got a great 50s Patt-O-Rama sundress in red polka dots to make up, too!
No markings on the pattern paper, just circular holes.  This one makes me shake in my boots...

Decisions Decisions

Hi, My name is Andrea and I am excited that I found this sewalong - if only that it has given me a prompt to do something I probably otherwise wouldn't have done. I have a blog at Sew in Style.

My vintage pattern is on it's way to me in Australia also - I did have one 80's pattern in my collection but I really couldn't see myself wearing a boxy jacket. So this is what I have chosen.

I am very tempted to go out an buy this gorgeous fabric that I discovered the other day:

To make it up in and use some navy satin for the sash BUT - and I'm not sure how I will overcome this dilemma just yet: I am 6 months pregnant and don't own a dress form so I am not quite sure just how I am going to fit this dress to myself. Part of me wants to find something in my stash to make it up with so that I can make it again with the fabric I love when I am no longer pregnant. I thought that I might be able to compare the toile to a couple of other toiles I have made - but there is nothing quite like being able to get that perfect fit. Any suggestions would be most welcome! Perhaps I should have chosen a jacket!

Sewalong Invite Update

Dear Ladies (no Gents as of yet, but they are welcome to join),

I am working feverishly to add invites to those of you that have sent me an email. If you do not have an email listed on your website, or your email is private, I am unable to invite you, I simple get rerouted to no-reply comment blogger.

I would recommend opening a sewing only email through yahoo or gmail. This will in no way be connected to your personal private email. This is what my matildasydney @yahoo.com is about.

You CAN comment and view if you are NOT invited. You CANNOT post if you are NOT invited. I do need an email in order to add you so that can post. Not my rules, but the Law of Blogger.

If I have not added you at this point, it is because I am unable to access your email. If you choose to view only that is great. Please consider an email and forward it to me, should you wish to have posting privileges.

Happy New Year All- my muslin bodice is cut out. Woo Hoo!

Posting to This Site

It is so exciting to see how many people have signed up to participate in this sewalong! Just a couple of suggestions to keep the site manageable:
  1. When you post photos, set the size to small. We can still click on them and see them at full size.
  2. Add your name as a label every time you post. For example, I labeled the post I just put up ("Torn Between Two Patterns") as "LindsayT." This will make it easier to search posts by participants.
  3. [updated to add] Also, please label your posts with the era you are sewing (i.e, 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s) and the type of garment you are making (i.e., dress, jacket, coat, blouse, etc.)
Thanks!

Torn Between Two Patterns

Happy New Year everyone! Nothing like starting off the new year with a little indecision. I can't make up my mind between these two patterns. The one on top I'd make into a little off-white spring coat, with a silk charmeuse lining in a Pucci-esque print. The bottom pattern, I'd make the jacket into an ivory boucle Chanel knock-off. Your thoughts?

Givenchy Dress

This is my dress-the shorter version! The fabric arrives Monday- okay , nothing in the stash was suitable. After looking over this pattern several times, it really needs to be a solid color and with some crispness. A pattern would be very busy and poofy. I have short legs.......I need to stick with monochromatic colors..........

I hope to cut out the muslin for the bodice today. After that, I hope to work on a perfect fit. I will post fabric once it arrives!

I also want to research the pattern a little more. I would like to know what history it has, if any. I will share this, if I come up with any information.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
